22nd September 2014
Welcome to the latest Club update.
The "new era" started on Saturday when Glyn Mandeville officially took charge of his first match, and the signs were promising.
We started really well, taking the game to Knaphill and deservedly lead early through Sean White who scored his first two goals for the club. Throughout the first half we had the majority of the chances, even though we had less possession as the half ran down, and the third goal from Taylor Smith probably flattered us.
That said, Dale Marvell's goal early in the second half was a bit special and at four nil the game was over, although the hosts kept trying and deservedly got one back before Sam Robinson was sent off with a quarter of an hour remaining. Strangely, from that point we looked more dangerous and had two opportunities to extend our lead towards the end, but on balance, we took many of our chances which was not the case against Frimley Green and that's why we are up to twelfth now. With games in hand we could even get into the top ten on Tuesday.
There is one cloud on the horizon. Our League schedule has been a fairly comfortable one thus far, with none of the promotion favourites faced yet. That starts to happen now, and we travel to Westfield on Tuesday, a team that I expected to be higher in the table, before we come up against the still unbeaten Spelthorne Sports on Saturday and then host Guildford City on Tuesday week. We are unbeaten in four League matches, but if we can extend that to seven that will tell us a lot more about what this team could achieve. I believe we are perfectly capable of doing this, why not come along and see for yourselves?
Come on you Salts!
