15th December 2014
Welcome to the latest Club update.
We had a mixed week on the results front, despite two really good performances.
On Tuesday we travelled to Fimley Green and eased past them by five goals to nil to reach the League Cup Quarter Finals for the third straight year. It was imporatnt to get off to a fast start against a team that were low in confidence and once Matt Ferdinando and Kyle Hough had put us two goals up in the first quarter of an hour there was only going to be one winner. James Taylor went forward to get our third while our other two scorers both scored a second time. Unfortunately we got dragged into a nasty incident about twenty minutes from time where the opposition reacted to a strong but fair Ferdinando challenge and although they had two players sent off, we also lost our midfielder for three games as a result.
On Saturday we suffered another red card as Sam Robinson had a very early bath, departing the fray after just six minutes. As this was his third sending off of the season we await the FA's decision with fingers crossed. Despite this, our ten men battled heroically at Badshot Lea on a very heavy pitch and even led twice after Matt Ferdinando had won two penalties with extremely skilful runs that were crudely ended. However, we tired in the second half and a late goal ensured a flattering 4-2 win for our hosts which just didn't seem fair although Badshot Lea at least remarked on our fine performance in their match report. A quick word also to Kyle Hough who scored both penalties, the first of which was his 150th for the club. In our 96 year history only Reg Marlow and Tommy Tuite have exceeded this figure so it is quite a milestone. Congratulations Kyle!
We now host Spelthorne Sports on Tuesday evening before having a well deserved rest for a while. There is no game for the Salts on Saturday and we are due to visit Raynes Park Vale in our next match on Saturday 27th December, weather permitting. We are back at High Road on 3rd January when Windsor are the visitors.
Come on you Salts!
