16th March 2015
Welcome to the latest Club update.
Last week I reported on two draws but this time I can raise that to two victories; our first back to back League wins since October!
Firstly, we travelled to Raynes Park Vale; a team that had only three days previously beaten Camberley Town, but we didn't really give them much in the way of chances and deservedly won the points thanks to two great goals from Sam Robinson and Kyle Hough.
Then on Saturday we recorded our first back to back wins at Chertsey's Alwyns Lane ground in our entire history, having won there on our last visit in January 2011. Our 2-1 win repeated the score from that day, although I feel certain that we would have extended our lead from the 2-0 half time score had we not suffered a red card to Daryl Cooper-Smith. Add to that a late dismissal for Dan Dean at Raynes Park Vale and we are up to a club record of nine red cards with nine games remaining in the season, which is concerning.
Matt Farrell's tenth yellow card against Raynes Park ensures that we face another spell later in the season without some of our key players again, but we are now up to five games unbeaten and are starting to look good on the field for longer periods. Again, Chertsey created very little against us, despite John Pomroy scoring a penalty for them; earned as a result of the sending off incident.
Pomroy always seems to score against us and I think I know now how opponents must have felt when they lined up against Tommy Tuite in the old days. That said, Pomroy has just scored his 300th goal and yet doesn't make his 400th Chertsey appearance for another few days. This is in fact a quicker scoring rate than even Tuite managed as Tommy famously scored his 300th goal on the occasion of his 400th appearance, so congratulations go to the Chertsey goal machine for a quite incredible achievement.
We have no midweek game but host Badshot Lea on Saturday at High Road. Badshot are flying since the injection of new players in late November and although they have lost three games recently, two of them were cup matches where many of their new players wouldn't have been eligible. However, their 1-0 home defeat to Frimley Green was a surprise and something that maybe we can take advantage of to extend our unbeaten run to six against a team that can certainly be called our bogey side, as we've only won one of our last eleven matches against them!
Finally, the Super Six Predictor is up to £361 now as there were no winners. The next tickets are on sale at the Badshot Lea game this Saturday. The fixtures are shown elsewhere on our website so why not study the form and then come along on Saturday to win the jackpot. Simples!
Come on you Salts!
