30th March 2015
Welcome to the latest Club update.
This is turning into a serious run! There are two more wins to report on this week and against two more sides that were bang in form.
On Tuesday Westfield, unbeaten in four matches and fresh from a 3-0 win visited us and did score first. However, we didn't panic, and a stunning header from Kyle Hough from a pinpoint Sam Robinson free kick levelled the scores with Kyle knocking another in from a defensive error five minutes later. At 2-1 up we looked comfortable but the loss of Matt Ferdinando for a second yellow card should have made things a bit nervy. As it turned out, it made no difference to the overall possession and Robinson knocked in a great third goal, curling the ball over the keeper from twenty yards to seal the 3-1 win.
Then on Saturday we repeated the score line against a Guildford team that came into the game, like us with a four game winning run. Much was made about their young team and I feared we would be closed down, but we passed well and had that little bit of quality in front of goal although we were aided by a foul on Kyle Hough just after the hour mark which enabled us to score from the penalty. We were then able to weather their fight back and great equaliser to retake the lead on the half time whistle, naturally through another Sam Robinson to Hough combination. We then extended our lead twenty three seconds into the second half after Matt Robinson cut inside and clipped his shot over the keeper and could have had more by the end.
So we sit at the top of the eight game form table with five straight wins and six in our last eight, with the other two matches resulting in draws. Well played lads!
In seasons past we have tailed off quite badly as we approach the end of the season but we are now up to my personal target of eighth and if we can keep this sort of form up then a top six position is not beyond us. Coming up are our Easter fixtures at home to Colliers Wood United and at Horley. On paper they are easier fixtures than the three we've just won, but in Colliers Wood we face a side with a great work ethic and in Assistant Paul Norris, formerly Chessington & Hook Manager, they have a man who knows how to beat us as Chessington recorded four wins in a row at our place so we need to be careful. And it gets no easier on the Monday morning as we face a team battling for survival and containing the league's leading scorer Ashley Nadesan, a former Epsom Youth team player who has had a great season. Who knows how many he could score next season if he were paired with say, a Kyle Hough, and with the sort of service that we are providing currently. You know where we are Ashley!
Because of the Easter Monday game, the weekly Editorial will be out a day later next week. If there is anything that you would like to see in it, or indeed anything on the website, just let me know!
Come on you Salts!
