Welcome to the latest Club update.
Little has happened this week as both of our matches at Raynes Park Vale and at Westfield were postponed due to the rain. Worse still, Windsor have won twice, while South Park quickly rearranged their postponed match with Mole Valley SCR for the Tuesday and won 3-0, restoring their five point gap over us.
So Epsom sit in third place currently, a point behind Windsor but we have three games in hand, and because of this, with due respect to Windsor both South Park and Camberley look the stronger threats right now.
As I write, we are due to finally meet South Park in the League Cup this Tuesday, although we need the weather to remain completely dry after the picture I saw of a corner of their pitch on Friday. A full five yards in one corner were underwater! Assuming it goes ahead for now it will be a tough one, and although it is a Cup match, whoever wins it will probably be perceived by many to be the favourites for the title. Of course, this game will have no actual bearing on the title as there are no points to play for, but there are a lot of people waiting to see which is the better team, and many will draw their own conclusions, especially if either side win easily.
I don't imagine this will be anything other than a tight encounter, and with the added spice of the best two teams in the League fighting out a rematch of last year's Cup Final, it should be well attended. Here's hoping for a good win!
Following this match we are back in League action on Saturday when Alton Town visit High Road. It would be no exaggeration to say that we should have won our opening fixture of the season at Alton by about eight, but their team has changed massively since our 1-0 win there and they come to us unbeaten in a few matches; also they are confident following their last result, a 3-1 home win over Windsor. Every match in this League is tough and my advice is to ignore the League position of the two teams and concentrate on beating who is in front of us, whoever they may be. There is a long way to go, one match at a time etc. etc. (insert your own football cliché here!)
Come on you Salts!
