Welcome to the latest Club update.
What an awful week this has been for the Salts, both on and off the pitch!
It's often depressing to report what happens off the field of play, and this week the club had to face accusations from South Park and others around the League after it was revealed that we had declined the opportunity to switch Tuesday's League fixture against them to High Road, or even delay the game by twenty four hours to the Wednesday as was originally advised by the League Bulletin. The match then suffered a late postponement. Was this down to the lack of organisation at our club, or was it a shortage of players? Either way, the club then felt inclined to release an ill-advised statement on the matter, which only made them look worse. All that was missing was someone riding by on a horse shouting "yeehah" and we'd be complete!
Then on Saturday, despite dominating possession, especially in the first half, we failed to produce a cutting edge and were defeated by a second half long range strike at Badshot Lea's temporary home ground of Ash United. It was a really odd performance as we seemed to second guess ourselves with various changes in formation, but ultimately, by playing the ball across the field a lot Badshot Lea just kept men behind the ball and we couldn't find a way through. Our official webmaster then decided to insult the opponents further by referring to them as Badshot Leave on the front page of the website.
I reiterate to people out there reading this that have any real interest in the club, please come and get involved. The club doesn't want you to know the mess it is in currently, but with an Acting Chairman, an Acting Secretary, an Acting Treasurer, a webmaster who spends five minutes a week on the "promotion" of the club and no apparent inclination to deal with any of these things, it is time to do something about it. If you want to help, just contact me here and we can discuss things further as there are many things that can be done, even if you don't have much time, or are unable to get to any games.
With our fine away record dented, news then got even worse on Sunday as the League revealed that we would be playing the rearranged League match at South Park on Thursday 3rd April. "So what?" you might say. Well, unfortunately we host Windsor on Tuesday 1st and Camberley on Saturday 5th April, so I hope we don't have any injuries or suspensions around that time or the avoidable postponement against South Park will come back to haunt us.
I'm going to throw it out there now. I don't believe that we can win the League now. Call me negative, but Saturday's performance and result, coupled with South Park's recent form and annihilation of a team (Alton) that we lost 3-0 to recently, and I now believe that two cup competitions are our only form of salvation this term. Having said that, it's been a long time since we were still in two cups at this stage of the season and on paper we are as good as anyone remaining in either.
We still have a very good playing squad and if we can come through the Raynes Park Vale match unscathed we will then have James Cottee back from suspension for the Molesey home game on Saturday. We have also re-signed striker Ross White who played for us, scoring a couple of goals in the 2010/11 season and adding two more the following term, so I'm sure that on the field matters will still turn out fine this season.
Come on you Salts!
