28th September 2015

Welcome to the latest Club update.

On Saturday we won points but lost money at High Road!

Farnham Town visited us and we were able to see them off by a goal to nil but that doesn't go close to telling the whole story!

The main talking point of the game should have been a stunning overhead kick strike from Matt Ferdinando as he buried Matt Farrell's cross into the top corner from ten yards out. In many ways it still was the highlight.

However, the game had another incident that neither team were happy with. In the 28th minute a long punt upfield left us short of cover and Craig Hastings brought their striker Matt Glass down. Well, actually, he didn't as Glass rode the challenge and finished clinically past Adrian Jones, who was covering for the working Michael Eacott and had a good game. The problem was that the referee didn't allow the advantage and as Glass was tucking the ball away the whistle blew.

At a stroke their goal was wiped off and replaced with a free kick, while Hastings was of course sent off for the professional foul which we'll all get fined for. The irony of course was that Farnham never did score and we hung on for the points, retaining our unbeaten league record in the process. However, if you asked everyone in the ground, they would have preferred it to be 1-1 and with 11 against 11.

The advantage law is there to help the officials, so why, oh why don't they use it more? In fairness to the referee he did allow some good advantages later in the game, and I'm sure it was just an error that he regrets too, but games are often remembered for these things and hopefully we'll remember Ferdy's fantastic goal, instead of the sending off when we discuss this game in the future, although I doubt that Farnham will remember the day with as much fondness.

Did you like the match report this week? We have recruited a new reporter for our Saturday home games in the name of Sam Brooker. He is at Glyn School and is looking to move into sporting journalism so if you see him around the ground in the future, please make him welcome!

On Saturday we make the journey to Cove. This match represents a large banana skin because of their League position, but we did well enough in a similar situation at Spelthorne recently and I am confident that we can extend our unbeaten League record further, as we close in on our club record figure of 12 matches, set back in 2008/09. Both Kyle Hough and Michael Eacott should be back and the injury situation is improving, so right now, things are looking good for the Salts. Why not come on down to Oak Farm on Saturday and see how we get on?

Come on you Salts!
