23rd November 2015
Welcome to the latest Club update.
The Salts have had a fantastic week!
It started on Tuesday when we travelled to runaway leaders Hartley Wintney and despite trailing 3-1 after an hour, we fought back to secure a point from a 3-3 draw.
It was better than that really, as we were unfortunate and in my opinion underservedly behind in the first place and only a superb display from their keeper kept us from establishing a decent sized lead in the first half. They had a 100% home League record before this match and had only conceded one goal in those matches, so this was a really good performance.
The only blot on the landscape was that Kyle Hough only lasted an hour and had to miss Saturday's match at home to sixth placed Hanworth Villa. For the first time this season though, we didn't miss him and cruised to a 5-0 victory.
Now it should be pointed out that this was a fully competitive match for about 50 minutes, but once we had scored our second goal the destination of the points was never in doubt and we ran away with it in the end, showing a clinical nature and improving our goal difference in the process.
We are now up to third place and whilst we didn't close the gap on Hartley Wintney, we remain in touch and having recently defeated Ashford Town also, are right in the thick of the promotion battle now. Hartley along with Camberley remain in the Vase which will bring extra fixtures for them, and hopefully that will have an effect on their League form. In the meantime all we can do is keep battling away and defeat those that we meet.
We have two more fixtures this week. On Tuesday evening we travel to Bedfont Sports and then visit Colliers Wood United on Saturday. Whilst on paper the fixture list now appears a little kinder following three matches against top six teams in the last month, both of these opponents present a difficult challenge as Bedfont Sports also took a point from Hartley Wintney recently, while Wood also remain in the F.A. Vase. Neither will be an easy match.
There is only one concern. Despite being third in the table, we only had 36 people at Saturday's game. Yes, I know it was cold, but we are playing well right now and seeing as we have to my knowledge suffered no postponements in the last two seasons, you know it will be on. Please come along to our next home match against Guildford, where we will have a bumper programme too. Bring your friends. Alternatively, sponsor a game or match ball. The cost for both is just £55 which includes entry for thre people, three programmes, hospitality and an advert in the programme or matchday mascot if required, which is really excellent value for money. We need your support, and right now the boys are well deserving of it.
Thirty years ago this very day we hosted the mighty Yeovil Town at West Street, securing a draw with a late Dave Taylor equaliser. His son James scored twice on Saturday, of course. Thirty years might seem like a long time ago, but if we want to get back to those sort of levels, we need your help. If you represent a local company, or even work for one, please have a word with them as we can provide all sorts of sponsorship packages, just ask!
Finally, on the charity front, Alex McKay is growing a moustache for Movember to help awareness of prostate cancer. If you wish to donate, please click HERE or just click on the link button on the front page. Thank you.
Come on you Salts!
