18th April 2016
Welcome to the latest Club update.
We have had a rollercoaster ride this week, with the incredible high of our second 7-0 away win this season, followed by a disastrous eight minutes when with victory in sight against Camberley Town we conceded three times to lose the match.
On Tuesday, we visited AFC Hayes and were ahead early, never letting up and our seven goal win was a tremendous performance. It is only the fourth time since World War Two that we have scored seven or more times away from home in the league and it shows that we are capable of being extremely clinical when we get on top.
This makes Saturday's result all the stranger as we were looking good to record a fine win over Camberley Town and deservedly led by two goals, yet from seeming in total control, an error in marking from a set piece gave them a foot in the door, and a deflected shot and a goal on the counter attack with us expecting a quite obvious penalty at the other end, enabled them to climb an enormous hurdle of their own and consign our season to the "almost" category.
I could go on about certain decisions that would have undoubtedly helped our case in this match, and it must be said that we have been unlucky this year. Still, I firmly believe that we will be right up amongst the challengers again next season if we can keep our current squad together and we have to finish strongly in the three matches that remain, as mathematically, we are not out of it yet so must keep going.
Luckily we have a midweek off and do not play until Saturday when we visit Hanworth Villa. We then finish with a home match against Ashford and a trip to sunny Chessington to conclude our season. The Ashford match will see a very large programme produced, even by our standards and hopefully will be of interest to home and away supporters alike. Our kit sponsors Intercem have sponsored the issue and we are very grateful to them for their donation.
So who's coming to Hanworth Villa on Saturday? If we were to score five goals it would break a club record, and without under-estimating our opponents in any way, we did do it last time we visited and know we can produce that sort of form on our day, so let's dream! Also, assuming he is fit, Kyle Hough will make his 350th appearance for the club to join a very elite group. As he currently sits on 199 goals for us and has scored in his last five matches, there's every chance that those who are present could witness a 200th goal too, something only ever achieved twice before in club history. It's worth the admission money just for that!
Come on you Salts!
