Welcome to the latest Club update.
Although we suffered a depressing defeat on Tuesday at Wembley to surrender our hold on the League Cup, I'm very upbeat today, largely on the back of our 3-0 win against Ash United, which coupled with other results at the top, leave us in a much healthier position than before.
Wembley gave us two very tough games previously this season and maybe the question needs to be asked whether they should really be higher in the League table. The hassled us constantly and forced us into errors, while many of our squad either picked up injuries or had poor games individuallly.
So it was extremely pleasing to see the lads bounce back with some force and it was poor old Ash who took the brunt. We could and maybe should have had substantially more than the three goals we created, but if we could win every game by three goals, you wouldn't find many of us complaining!
Defeats for South Park and for Camberley enabled us to close the gap to ten points on the leaders and with a game in hand, while we are now back above Camberley for the time being as I expect them to win at Frimley Green on Thursday evening. However, it was the 0-4 home defeat of South Park by Westfield that was the surprise of the day and when you throw in their 0-0 draw at Hanworth Villa last Thursday, it will be interesting to see how they react at Tuesday against Raynes Park Vale, although Vale lost to bottom club Horley at the weekend, so I wouldn't expect too much.
We still have to play every other club in the top five before seasons end, while South Park still have to meet Camberley and all of the top three still have to face Windsor once more, so there could be a few twists and turns yet before the title is decided. We just have to keep going, and our next opponents are Bedfont Sports on Saturday; a team in good form themselves and who have only dropped points against Camberley and Windsor in their last six matches, so we will need to work very hard to get the points, but nobody said it had to be easy!
Come on you Salts!
