the= ir debuts against Hornchurch. Epsom led 2-0 but couldn't hold on and conceded a late equaliser for 2-2.

For= mer player Matt Elliott had joined Scunthorpe United over the summer for �50,000 aft= er a loan spell at the end

of = the season. He had made 124 appearances an d scored 15 goals but had already made 8 appearances and

one= goal for his new side. Murray Jones moved from Grimsby to Brentford for �75,000. H= ad already moved from�

Bri= stol City to Exeter for �50,000 and from there to Grimsby for �75,000 a year later sco= ring three goals in�

six= teen appearances there.

Aug= 92 Mark Pepper was offered an extension to his contract at �20 but he never repli= ed, so the original terms

rem= ained in place. However, he never showed for training and was subsequently fined h= is �15 every week that

he = missed training. Dave Wilson wrote regular letters advising Pepper of this. He n= ever played for the club from

this point.

mee= ting between the clubs first teams since 1933 when they were known as Epsom Town and Clapton Orient.

Ori= ent fielded seven players with over 600 league appearances between them. Keeper Paul Heald who would go

on = to better things kept Orient ahead near the end. Ray Purvis injured shoulder and le= ft field with ten minutes left.

14/= 11/92 Epsom are hammered at West Street 4-1 by Leighton Town. Purvis was out, as was = Tim Tweedy, who

had= his broken nose reset. Nigel Bennett returned for his first start since August. Purv= is is out until January.

21/= 11/92 Totally against expectations Epsom go to Aldershot Town and get a 1-1 dra= w in front of nearly 2,000

peo= ple. Epsom's total attendance last season was 1,422! Nimmo equalised in the second half after the hosts

had= led at HT and Epsom held on despite pressure. Nine of Epsom's squad was under 23.

Th= e goal came when Matt Varndell set up Graham Morris who crossed for Andy Nimmo to fire home. Tweedy returned.

aft= er 54 minutes to a goal from former player David Jones. A second goal in the fi= nal minute was harsh. Lost 2-0.

19/= 12/92 A controversial late winner after 82 minutes gives Royston Town a 2-1 win. Several yards offside!

26/= 12/92 Conned on Boxing Day by Horsham who displayed time wasting on a professional sca= le. Epsom led�

af= ter 14 minutes through Alcindor, but at 1-1 Horsham continually took free kicks = from the wrong place, forcing the

ref= eree to order them to be retaken and wasting Epsom's time. Horsham scored again a= fter 72 minutes and with

Eps= om wasting chances and poor refereeing, they held on comfortably. One of those days = said papers.

28/= 12/92 Mark Wiggins breaks his leg after two minutes of the match at home to Clapton. Epsom draw 1-1 after�

a 9= 3rd minute Clapton equaliser.

Dec= 92 Malden Town fold after a year long battle with Kingston Council. Club withdraws mid-season. Had been at

Man= or Park since 1951. No trace of ground or clubhouse exists now and the area is ju= st a park.

and= Rawlinson. Graham Morris long shot evened things up just before HT and despite Richa= rd Strong going off

Bra= cknell game. Alcindor and Hooper were both missing with injury.

22/= 5/93 Epsom reluctantly take the field at Dorking for the Southern Combination Cup Fi= nal even though Adrian

Hil= l and John Rains the Dorking manager wanted to play the final pre-season. Epsom hadn= 't trained for a couple

of = weeks and some players were missing including Paul Meredith on holiday. Epsom did m= ost of the work in the

gam= e but still lost to a last minute goal just when extra time looked likely.

May= 93 Richard Strong and Simon Alldridge retire, but neither really hang up their boots. Alldridge never returns

for= the first team but plays for Glyn Old Boys for many years. Strong occasionally retu= rns in the future.
